BONNIE RAITT WALKED DOWN THE aisle of the Union Church in Pocantico Hills, N.Y., last week knowing just what she wanted to say. “I stand before you, Michael, to take this step I’ve waited all my life to take,” the 41-year-old three-time Grammy winner told Michael O’Keefe, 36, the star of the Fox network’s Against the Law.
And she did it with characteristic flair. Because Raitt is of Scottish descent and O’Keefe of Irish, the wedding, the first for both, had a Celtic theme. Broadway-musical star John Raitt (Carousel, The Pajama Game) escorted his daughter down the aisle wearing a tartan kilt, and the reception at the nearby Tarrytown House featured traditional Irish music.
Raitt’s mother, Marge Goddard, served as matron of honor. While the 90 guests included Wynonna Judd, Jackson Browne and Daryl Hannah, the performing was left to Papa Raitt, who sang tunes including The Girl That I Marry and My Little Girl as bride and groom danced together.
O’Keefe met Raitt in Los Angeles at the September 1989 shooting of a fund-raising video for the homeless and proposed to her last Christmas Eve. “Bonnie embodies everything I have always wanted in a woman: love, honesty, passion and a great way with the blues,” he said in a February interview. The two do seem to have a harmonious union: Raitt’s new album, Luck of the Draw (due June 25), includes a song cowritten by the newlyweds.

Raitt contributed to a new album, If You're Going To The City: A Tribute To Mose Allison, which celebrates the late singer and pianist, who famously blended the rough-edged blues of the Mississippi Delta with the 1950s jazz of New York City.
NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro talks to Bonnie Raitt about her friendship with the Mose Allison. They're also joined by Amy Allison — his daughter, who executive produced the album — about selecting an unexpected list of artists to contribute songs to the album.
